FEW METERS CLOSER TO THE GROUND
«Few meters closer to the ground» / Drawings / Pencil on paper / Dimensions 56 x 75 cm. / 2016

The work of Panayiotis Vorrias «Few meters closer to the ground» comprises a series of equally spaced pencil drawings in paper. It refers to a fragmentary record of the largest man made excavation that has ever been opened on the ground. Bingham Canyon Mine is a copper mine in the Oquirrh Mountains in Utah, United States. The mine is 1.2km deep and 4km wide. It consists of consecutive stratifications in order to allow the access to the lowest level. The project does not discuss the use of the excavation drilling, but examines this morphologically. In this way, an ambiguous drawing record is created and the human relationship is redefined continuously with what we perceive as the surface of the ground.
